Google Chrome OS

On Thursday, Nov. 19, Google presented their idea of the OS, which could if it succeeds take over Netbooks’ OS and then in turn compete with Windows 7. I am fascinated with how Google aims to make things easier, with clean interfaces and intuitive use. I find myself wondering why I keep filling up my Macbook’s memory with documents, films, music and other files after I started using online services like Flickr, Google Documents, Vimeo, Spotify, Wimp and others operating in ‘the cloud’.

Google has opened the development process of Google Chrome OS to the world’s developers and in a year’s time the OS will be released. After watching this presentation I am tempted to try it out.

Although, I’m very content with the speed and ease I use my Macbook, which is running Snow Leopard, it could be interesting to see how Apple and Microsoft will play their cards next year as the hotchpotch of netbooks, fantasy iTablets, smartphones, Kindles, Nooks and whatnot. Will the next step be empty computers with all content online? Will this take into account the safety of your content and privacy? It will certainly solve the boot-up speed issue with many computers, but it does also leave a lot of questions unanswered. Nevertheless, it’s a bold and fascinating step by Google.
